Angus Glover: Rising Basketball Star from Australia
Basketball is a popular sport all over the world, and Australia is no exception. Angus Glover is an Australian professional basketball player who has been making waves in the sport for some time now.
Angus was born on September 8, 1998, in Sydney, New South Wales county. Since he started playing basketball at a young age, he has grown into a talented player with excellent skills on the court.
During his school days, he was known for his energetic nature and was involved in multiple sports. However, at the age of 13-14, he decided to give all of his focus to professional basketball. Since then, he has been dedicated to becoming the best basketball player he can be.
Glover’s career began when he played for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in Division Two in New South Wales (NSW). He then moved to the NSW Waratah League and played for the Bankstown Bruins. In his second season with Bankstown Bruins, he won Rookie of the Year honours and scored an impressive thirty-five points per game average.
The young player soon drew the attention of talent scouts after being named MVP at multiple junior tournaments. This newfound attention motivated him to enrol in a local academy program that specialised in developing players’ skills and honing their talents.
Soon enough, his hard work paid off. He secured a place on the Australian team roster for the FIBA Under-17 World Cup held in Spain in June 2016 while still attending school at Manly Selective High School.
Aussie basketball enthusiasts much anticipated Glover’s international debut because of his amazing college performance and reputation as one of Australia’s brightest prospects. His national team experience did not disappoint as he emerged as one of Australia’s top scorers averaging fifteen open play points per game.
Glover was already transitioning to professional basketball at seventeen years old by signing up with Illawarra Hawks of the National Basketball League (NBL) as part of their development squad/development player program. This allowed him to play games here and there depending on the opportunity presented.
In January 2017, days before competing back home at a summer jam tournament hosted by Penrith Valley Sports Facility, he suffered a season-ending knee injury in a development league match against Sydney Kings.
After undergoing surgery and significant rehabilitation, he initially spent time with the Hills Hornets team before moving to Newcastle as part of their BLK 3×3 Pro Hustle series team for its inaugural competition as his return-to-play prospect improved.
Glover showed no signs of losing any of his skills after returning from his injury setback. He made an announcement to the world by dominating opponents during the 2018 SEABL03 season while playing for Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence.
His excellent performance in that tournament soon led to an opportunity to play for the Illawarra Hawks again. In December 2018, Glover signed with Hawks for the remainder of their NBL campaign and has made several impressive appearances since then.
The Sydney Kings signed Glover to a three-year contract on 20 July 2020. The third time he tore his ACL in the next year. After repairing the previous two tears with his own hamstring, his father’s hamstring was used to repair this tear.
He won the NBL championship twice in 2022 and 2023. The Eltham Wildcats of the NBL1 South signed him after the end of that NBL season. The Kings re-signed Glover on a two-year contract on 24 March 2023.
As a rising basketball star from Australia, Angus Glover has a bright future ahead of him. With his hard work and dedication to the sport, it is no surprise that he is considered one of Australia’s brightest prospects for professional basketball. His performance on various international platforms shows that his talent knows no bounds.
Even though he experienced a major setback early in his career due to an injury, Angus did not stop working hard towards achieving his goals. He persevered through it all and came back even stronger, which exemplifies his dedication and passion for the game.
Off the basketball court, Angus Glover is an interesting personality with several hobbies and interests. Beyond his passion for basketball, he has a love for coffee and enjoys trying out different blends. He often spends his downtime exploring local cafes and searching for new flavours.
Additionally, he is an avid gamer who enjoys playing video games with his family and friends. Call of Duty (COD) remains his all-time favourite game, which he plays competitively with his close circle.
While on the court, Glover’s focus is to give it his all and lead his team to victory. However, off the court, he likes to do things that help him relax and rejuvenate for the next game. He believes in the importance of having fun and enjoying life outside of basketball.
From catching up over a cup of coffee with friends to spending hours gaming online, Glover finds ways to unwind without compromising on his training regime or dedication toward basketball. This balance between work and personal life helps him maintain a healthy lifestyle both mentally and physically.
Angus Glover is one athlete who represents what persistence and resilience are all about. He continues to inspire upcoming players with his commitment to achieving greatness in what they do.
While some may see this level of intensity as daunting or intimidating, it is clear that Angus is driven by an unshakeable determination that keeps him pushing forward even when faced with challenges.
