FIBA Women’s Asia Cup Semi-final: China Advances to the Final Against Japan After Beating the Host
The second semifinal of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup Tournament featured an intense battle between the two basketball powerhouses, Australia and China. With both teams determined to secure a spot in the final, it was China that emerged victorious, outclassing Australia with a final score of 74-60.
The first quarter began with fierce competitiveness from both teams as they sought to gain an early advantage. China exhibited great offensive prowess by utilising strong outside shooting to take control of the game. With quick passes and accurate shots, they built an early lead, ending the first quarter with a score of 18-11 in their favour.
The Opals looked determined to make a comeback as the second quarter got underway and started narrowing the gap with some impressive defensive plays. Their aggressive approach disrupted China’s offensive rhythm, forcing turnovers and capitalising on fast-break opportunities. The Australians managed to reduce the deficit but fell just short as China maintained their lead, finishing the second quarter at 35-32.
After halftime, both teams came out with renewed energy and determination. However, China women once again demonstrated their tenacity by dominating in rebounds and making timely baskets.
Despite Australia’s best efforts to mount a comeback in the third quarter, they struggled against an unyielding Chinese defence which limited their scoring opportunities. Consequently, the Chinese ladies extended their lead further to 53-43 by the end of the third period.
Entering the final quarter, Australia desperately tried to close in on China’s advantage but was met with staunch resistance from China’s impenetrable defence. Demonstrating excellent teamwork and strategic playmaking skills throughout the game, China successfully held off every Australian offensive surge while maintaining consistent scoring.
